The Co-op Housing Facility is one of FPSDC’s responses to building sustainable communities. In building the said housing facility, primary focus is directed towards food security, renewable energy and livelihood opportunities. Additionally, the community is composed of houses built using sustainable materials.
Included in the Federation’s Six-year Sustainable Development Plan is the goal to develop Co-op Ville in Brgy. Mambuaya, Cagayan de Oro City. The 2.5-hectare land utilized for the said housing facility is part of the total 5-hectare land owned by the Federation. Co-op Ville was constructed to serve as a resettlement community for the members affected by Typhoon Sendong back in 2011.
Currently, Co-op Ville houses around 130 families. There are also other facilities present in the community, namely the Multi-purpose Hall, Covered Court, Health Center and Learning Center.
However, a shelter is not enough to support a family which is why FPSDC helps the residents develop livelihood sources together as one community. In line with this, a Bed and Breakfast facility is now on its way to serve as an income-generating establishment for the community.
FPSDC also gives the children residing in Co-op Ville the chance to continue dreaming despite their traumatic experience with Typhoon Sendong. Willing investors can pledge sponsorship for the children of Co-op Ville.
Co-op Ville is more than just a compensation for the infrastructures that were destroyed by Typhoon Sendong. More importantly, it is served as an avenue for the survivors to develop the value of resilience and unity despite how rough the going might become.
The housing facility has surely reached far since its groundbreaking, and one thing’s for sure, the developments will keep on coming for the Federation is continuously formulating more programs and services to better the sustainablility of Co-op Ville.
